(…and why we’re willing to pay the $$$)
Let’s talk sugar.
It’s sweet, it’s delicious, and it’s in just about everything we love—our coffee syrups, our baked goods, and let’s be honest, probably in that second (okay, third) cinnamon roll you swore you weren’t going to eat this week.
But not all sugar is created equal.
Some of it comes from sugar beets, which sounds innocent enough until you realize most of them are genetically modified and processed with a little less love than we’d like.
That’s why, at Terre Coffee & Bakery, we pay the extra cost to ensure our sugar comes from pure, non-GMO cane. And trust us, it’s worth every penny.

The Beet vs. Cane Sugar Showdown
Picture this:
Two sugars walk into a café.
One says, “Hey, I’m pure cane sugar, grown naturally, minimally processed, and full of rich flavor.”
The other mumbles, “Uh, I’m beet sugar, but… like… 95% of my kind is genetically modified, and I might have been doused in chemicals. But I taste kinda the same?”
No contest. Cane sugar wins.
Every.
Single.
Time.

Why Should You Care?
Other than making your coffee and pastries taste better, choosing cane sugar over GMO beet sugar means:
- No Franken-sugar – GMO crops are designed to survive heavy pesticide use, which means they’re often swimming in chemicals by the time they reach your plate. Pure cane sugar? No weird science experiments here.
- Better Taste – Cane sugar has a richer, more caramel-like sweetness. Beet sugar? Often a little processed-tasting, with a hint of “meh.”
- Easier on the Gut – Some studies suggest that GMO foods might be linked to gut issues. And listen, we want you enjoying our pastries—not regretting them later.
- Cleaner Ingredients, Cleaner Conscience – At Terre, we care about what we serve. If we wouldn’t feed it to our families, we wouldn’t serve it to you. (Except we still carry the popular favorites of lotus and Red Bull, along with the in high demand colored Torani syrups, but at least even those are made with pure cane sugar…we just couldn’t stand disappointing so many of our valued guests by axing these…)
We’re Willing to Pay the Price
Yes, pure cane sugar costs more. Yes, it would be cheaper to use beet sugar.
But we’re not in the business of cutting corners—we’re in the business of crafting the best coffee and baked goods you can get your hands on.
So the next time you sip on that perfectly sweetened latte or bite into that oh-so-moist cranberry almond scone, just know: You’re getting the real deal. No shortcuts, no GMOs—just pure, delicious sweetness.
Stay sweet,
The Terre Coffee & Bakery Team
